In this tale of beauty and a world full of beasts, Jaid Black offers a story both titillating and entertaining. In her typical style, the chemistry between the characters is thrilling but also full of the heart required to make a true romance. Nicoletta is a complicated woman in a time when women are only necessary to be sex toys and bearers of children. Abdul is also a complex character, a powerful man with conflicts that threaten to undo his entire world. At first I had a hard time seeing a world where women are property. This concept made it that much more fascinating to follow Nicoletta, who is not anyone's blow-up doll. I enjoyed the story very much, as I always do Ms. Black's tales of romance and exotic locales. I heartily recommend The Mastering to all of Jaid Black's fans and to readers new to her work.
