| Born in ancient Egypt, Set has never wavered in his commitment to Ra and the oath he swore to the sun god. Keeping the undead numbers down each night has been his life for more years than he can remember. Even though Ra has promised that they would each find their life mates, he never really believed he would find his until the night he realises Desiree has seen him kill one of the undead and he can't erase her memory of the event.
Desiree likes her life and even though she has seen the undead in the flesh as it were, she doesn't fully believe the story Set has told her. She is determined to escape the headquarters of Set and his friends to get back to the life he says is over for her. She isn't his mate and she isn't going to let him drink her blood and she isn't going to stay where he wants. Set and Desiree are absolutely perfect for each other, and Set's indefinable age comes through in his complete lack of understanding of Desiree's need for life and to make her own decisions. Being a typical 21st century woman, Desiree has no comprehension of the dangers ancient demons and their ilk can cause. She is an independent, feisty and completely adorable woman who soon learns that ancient warriors know what they are talking about when it comes to danger. The second book in the series, Mate Hunger is still totally stand alone, giving enough information of both the previous book and the other warriors who will star in later books. Ms. Chenery has once again gone above and beyond with this latest saga of Ra's chosen.
