Their fathers had been sworn enemies for years. His family had wealth—hers had status with the ton. The last thing either of them wanted was to marry. It was the one thing their fathers agreed upon.

Lady Annabelle Ashton, daughter of the Earl of Haverscroft, had been disgraced by scandal. Her parents were desperate to save their reputations so they sought to get her married. Reginald Mason didn’t care about his station in life until his father threatened to cut off his funds entirely if he doesn’t marry Annabelle. Soon they found themselves forced together. Their lives would be forever changed.

Ms. Mary Balogh is a great author of whom I am extremely interested. Her books have brought me hours of enjoyment. This latest offering is one of her best. Balogh’s writing style is superb and her character studies excel. This main couple was definitely interesting to get to know. The myriad of supporting characters enhanced this work. There was scandal, suspense, and sensuality throughout this fast-paced book.

The storyline running throughout this book developed her characters in an interesting way. It was easy to follow the progression of their relationship. There were, however, several surprise twists and turns so it was impossible to predict how the story would evolve. I can guarantee that not only will you enjoy the journey through these lives but you will also not expect it to end as it does.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading regency romance. The setting is familiar. The characters are very likeable and the journey to their happily-ever-after is quite enjoyable.
