The McCallan's are a very wealthy and influencial family in their part of Louisiana. Jake is the elder responsible brother who runs the family business and manages the family fortune. Trey is young, irresponsible, and self indulgent, but Jake never thought him beyond redemption until the day he told Jake that he drugged a woman, got her pregnant, and took no responsibility for the child. He even asks Jake to get rid of the problem. Family is very important to a werewolf, and in addition to being influential members of the community; the male McCallans are also werewolves. Jake throws Trey out of their little pack and investigates the situation. Rebecca Miller is an independent woman with her own business and wants nothing to do with any of the McCallans, even the handsome Jake. Jake has just met his lifemate and she is the mother of his brother's child. Now he has to keep her alive long enough to convince her that not all McCallans are alike.

Ms. Lorenz has written a suspenseful tale. Rebecca has been put in an untenable position through no fault of her own. She was abandoned by the careless father of her child and her parents disowned her, but she is determined to make her own way. Jake is desperate to convince her that he is her soulmate, but has to overcome the sins of his brother. The other characters in the story are extremely well drawn. Trey is a spoiled brat of a frat boy, Barker, Jake's best friend is a playboy, but he has met his match in Rebecca's steadfast friend Vicki, Caroline is a supportive mother to Jake, and the hitman is determined and creepy. I enjoyed reading about how Jake protected Rebecca while trying to win her over and the climactic scene in the McCallan's mill is very exciting. Fans of romantic suspense will love this story, and werewolf fans even more.
