| Tate Cooper gets a nice surprise when she visits her mother at her retirement condo in Florida. The son of her mom's next door neighbor, James Bowen, is a sexual dream. They are attracted to each other immediately and spend their visit trying to have a no-strings affair under the eyes of a community of retired chaperones. Tate wants to keep her distance. She is the sole family member responsible for the family restaurant after the death of her father and brother. She has no time for a relationship with all the problems related to the restaurant, even if the sexiest man she's ever met lives just miles away.
Take one woman who equates tattoos with loser, bad boys and one man who is anything but a loser and has chosen to celebrate the highlights of his life with tattoos, and you get a great romance. This novel was fun. The sexual tension builds wonderfully as the budding romance is continually cut short by the community of meddling seniors. When they get back to the Boston area, James just can't keep to the agreement to stay apart. I loved the way he works his way into her life with the same effort she uses to try to keep him out. There was a light touch to this book that made me smile at James' handling of his reluctant lady. As the romance builds, so does the tension. The danger is always hanging over Tate but there is still time for romance. I was impressed as the romance never took second place to the mystery as it does in so many romantic suspense books. The vacation affair, the growing romance and connection back home, and the ever present danger in the background blend this book into a novel that could stand as against any off-the-shelf mystery. Definitely a winner.
