| When several members of his crew are injured in a fire, firefighter Evan Murdoch places himself on administrative leave. Still grieving over the tragic loss of his former girlfriend, Evan isn’t ready to jump into the fire with a woman again. That is, until he is literally bowled over by his sexy neighbor during an earthquake. Lillian O’Hara has been burned in a former relationship. Her self esteem and confidence are at rock bottom. She also has a secret "gift." She can predict earthquakes with uncanny regularity. When she is thrown together with her gorgeous neighbor, it is immediately apparent that there is something very special about the new guy next door. Though the attraction is overpowering, both harbor misgivings about getting too close too soon. When they are trapped together during an earthquake, Evan and Lil have plenty of time to confront their indecision and decide what is most important.
Evan and Lil’s characters come to vivid life on the pages of Meltdown. From the opening scenes, I was caught in the author’s web. I was drawn into the story like a fly on the wall. These two well-developed characters feel like close friends. Evan is a confident and sexy hero whose protective instincts are recognized from the onset. When he is literally bowled over by Lil, the chemistry between the two is clearly explosive. Evan’s commanding presence is a wonderful counter to Lil’s innate feminism. Though her self esteem is low, Evan brings out the sensual woman hiding behind the façade of independence. As the relationship develops, we experience the blossoming of feelings yet are aware of each withholding something from the other. When danger threatens, it's time to confront their feelings for each other and take the risk of trusting their hearts or not. The love scenes are highly erotic and completely realistic. Denise A. Agnew has a gift for bringing even the slightest kiss to brilliant life on the pages. When it comes to chemistry, the author knows what readers want. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well rounded love story.
