Sara was thrilled over the purchase of her new home. It had been a tavern in the 1700's belonging to a Quaker family. Being a Curator and Director of the Historical Society she adored the old inn. Her family thought she was crazy for rumor had it that the inn was haunted. She was awakened after the first night in her new home by a man in a Quaker costume calling her daughter. She thought she must still be dreaming. She soon came to believe she had traveled in time back to the year 1777. There she meets a man named Luke Keenan, also known as Silver Wolf. There is an instant attraction between the two but with the prejudices between the races and the trouble of the British army raiding the area things do not go smoothly for the two lovers.

Memories by Janet Cooper is a fascinating story involving time-travel and past life experiences. It is filled with the dangers and the cultural beliefs of the time. It centers on a couple that fall in love in spite of all their differences. Sara or Sarah in this story is a lover of history. She is strong and independent. It is difficult for her to take the place of a mild mannered Quaker woman. Luke Keenan is a member of the Lenape People; he resents the white's treatment of his people and the land. He is quick to assume Sara will be prejudice but it is he that must overcome his assumptions. The story is passionate and much is due to the fact that Sara reacts as a twentieth century woman instead of the shy, respectable behavior expected of her. The danger of the time with the British that steal the animals and belongings from the people in the area and the physical threat to them as they are raped and beaten is discussed and adds intrigue to the story. The dialogue is well written and flows smoothly. This is a rewrite of an older story that I enjoyed reading and although I felt that some information was left out of this story it is still quite enjoyable. I recommend, Memories as a colorful adventurous tale back into history filled with danger and passion that comes to life for the reader through the words of Janet Cooper.
