| Jennifer Sutherland and her daughter Deane were hidden in the air duct of the cabin. Her husband, John, shoved them in there just before the men came. John was a museum director, who, along with a group of prominent people, led a secret life of gambling and stolen antiquities. He decided to steal some artifacts and sell them for himself. Unfortunately, he got caught.
Jen heard arguing and yelling, suddenly a gun went off. John was dead and the three men were looking for his wife and daughter. They stayed hidden until all was quiet and the sun went down. They snuck out to the hidden SUV John had ready for just such an emergency. Jen and Deane headed to the only person Jen thought could help them and keep them safe, Ethan Caine. He was a former special op agent who now ran a training school for special forces. It was time to bring the bad people down and protect the innocent. I love stories about special forces, rangers, seals, or government assassins. It makes the story exciting with lots of action and suspense. This book was a sequel and it would be a benefit to read the first one, but it can be read as a stand alone. The plot was good and the characters were solid, I did find a few repeats and mistakes. Dino, a man who helps Jen, tells how he started his fishing charter business more than once. And when Jen sees a thick bandage on his arm she replies "I've seen scars like that before, you've been shot." Unless she has x-ray eyes, she can't see through the bandage. But other than that the novel was enjoyable.
