| Simon Wick is a homeless schizophrenic. He doesn’t know which is worse, knowing that fact or the one he is the son of an incestuous relationship with his younger brother and mother. He is aware people say he is crazy. He looks like a human but has the power to crack time. Others know he is the barrier of dimensions. She is Medana, the Gwyllion chieftain in Caer Vandwy with colorless eyes and locks. The ones that flock with her have a savage way of living. They will do anything to get into the mind, especially Simon’s. While in their presence, Simon is subjected into drinking something which makes everything appear in twisted forms. He feels as if he is losing his mind. He only has one real couple that are his friends, especially when the townspeople shut him out. But becoming prey to Gwyllion, his friends are nowhere nearby when he is becomes the Gwyllion’s easy target. They soon familiarize Simon with their delights surrounding their worship and temple. If Simon continues to be drawn in by their mesmerizing trance he will metamorphose into a slave for them to use in any way with their acts of vengeance.
Metempsychosis is an interesting read. German Bradley creates a whole different world with demons and dark myths that can leave some pondering thoughts with the reader. The complex tale sketches a colorful imagination but throughout it all, sometimes the change with all the characters and demonic creatures is a bit difficult to keep the story flowing smoothly. There are some dark situations that many readers may find offensive with the sexual violent situations, along with the mutations incorporated into the read. I could only feel for Simon and all the tragic circumstances he encounters by the hands of the Gwyllion, and the monstrosities, as he tries to figure out where he belongs.
