Douglas Kowalski feels sorry for his friend, John Huntington, now that he's become entangled in love. Love is never something that he'll have, even if his face didn't scare women who might be interested in more than hard sex. So he's unprepared for his reaction to the singer at the ceremony he and Midnight Man are attending. The woman has the voice of an angel, and when he finally meets Allegra, he first thinks she's like every other woman who is unable to look him in the eye. Kowalski soon discovers that she's blind, not unable to look at his face. While their friends drift off to other conversations, Allegra seems to be happy to discuss music with him, his one real passion. Is it possible for a beautiful, talented woman like Allegra to be interested in him, an ugly brute of a man?

As usual with Ms. Rice's work, Midnight Angel is touching, erotic, and suspenseful. Kowalski and Allegra brought more emotion into their romance than any of Ms. Rice's previous books, and that is saying a lot. Kowalski's need for Allegra and, more importantly, her acceptance was brought out vividly and beautifully. Allegra's frustration with her blindness, and newly awakened passion and trust in Douglas was felt so real. The romance progressed quickly, but it was easy to see why. As for the erotic part...I don't think any reader could remain unaffected by both the tenderness Douglas used and pure need he felt. It was incredibly hot. Douglas was an Alpha male, but at the same time, he never dominated Allegra in the way of most Alphas and still managed to be incredibly sweet with her, despite the urges to insist on some things. Midnight Angel was a wonderful book and there are moments that will stay with me for a very long time.
