Percy Cristobel had taken over the law firm of Whitney and Devrou and he had learned about Pasquale while going thru the files. Percy had devised a scheme so that he could take control of Pasquale's fortune. Percy is a greedy, shallow, evil man, and he's set a trap that Pasquale can't get out of.

Percy tells Gerardo that he knows just who and what Gerardo is and that he had traced Pasquale back to the 1500's, threatens to expose him to the town. Gerardo grabs Percy and threatens to kill him. Only Percy isn't frightened. He tells Gerardo that if anything happens to him, certain letters would go to the right people exposing Gerardo for what he really is. Percy already controls Gerardo's money, as he has power of attorney over Gerardo's affairs, but that wasn't enough. Percy informs Gerardo that he will marry his sister Laure, and deed over a fourth of all Gerardo's assets to Percy as well as a comfortable allowance for his sister. In exchange Percy would keep Gerardo's secret.

Gerardo knew he was trapped. Until he could find out who was holding the letters Percy spoke of, Gerardo would have to go along with this insane idea. Gerardo knew Percy for what he was, but what of this sister? Did she know what Percy was doing and was she part of it? Or is she being used as well? Trapped, Gerardo had no choicse but to agree, but not before he made a demand of his own. This Laure would carry Gerardo's name and live in his house, and if she left for any reason the deal was off and the marriage annulled.

Percy was full of himself as he left Pasquale's home. Now all he had to do was convince Laure to marry Pasquale. Percy knew just how to do so without letting Laure know what he was up to.

Laure unknowingly falls into Percy's trap and agrees to the marriage. Laure felt she had no other choice after what had happened to her. Percy convinced Laure that it was the only way to keep the town from finding out her secret. Laure wondered what kind of man Gerardo Pasquale was; she could only hope that things would work out for the best. Laure feared what would happen if Gerardo found out the secret she has kept hidden form everyone.

Gerardo and Laure are brought together by lies, blackmail and deceit. What they find together is altogether different. This story is filled with danger and intrigue. How two people, one human and the other not so human, will join and fight the evil that shadows them. Will Gerardo be exposed for what he truly is? And what is this dark secret Laure fears will destroy everything she has grown to love and hold most dear? Nancy Gideon has to be one of the best Vampire romance writers to date. She mixes just the right amount of drama, suspense and romance to keep you on the edge from beginning to end. The passion shared between Gerardo and Laure is what truly makes a love story worth reading. I give Ms. Gideon my highest rating and recommend you read this wonderful love story. Enjoy!
