Claire wants to experience life and escape her overprotective father. She was sick for twelve years, nearly dying. So when Lucy, a coworker, asks her if she wants to go clubbing, she agrees. But she is shocked by what goes on in the club. And when a cruel-looking man insists on dragging her to the dance floor, Bud comes to the rescue. He was there undercover, hoping an informant would show up. The Princess, as he dubs Claire, caught his eye. When he saw the guy approach her and refuse to take no for an answer, he steps in. He stays next to her at the club, keeping away anymore creeps. When she finds out her friend Lucy left her at the club with no way home, Bud offers to take her.

In the car, all Bud can think about is getting Claire into bed, despite his good sense telling him it was a bad idea. When she invites him in for coffee, he tells himself no but then agrees. Claire knows that she wants Bud and has every intention of getting him. She'd found the first guy who ever touched her sexuality.

Bud was hilarious after they made love. There were a number of laugh-out-loud moments in the story, occasionally lightening the intensity of it. Claire and Bud were red-hot together. I loved the conflict they had later on in the story, partly because it was funny, and partly because it made Bud seem less godly as a character. I loved Ms. Rice's Midnight Man but this book topped it. There was much more depth to the characters and more insight into their feelings. I also liked the addition of humor that wasn't in Midnight Man. As an erotic romance, Midnight Run hit all the right spots in just the right ways. The romance was excellent and the love scenes were amazing. And the suspense that didn't occur till the end, intertwined with Midnight Man's plot, added to excitement of the story. All in all, Midnight Run is a must-read book for romance lovers.
