Dr. Sheba Reynard is an ethnologist by trade. She's a myth buster, studying legends and dissecting them piece by piece, until there isn't a legend anymore. Sheba didn't believe in monsters. So why is it she wanted to run the other way when her life long friend Paulo, and the closest thing to family since the death of her parents, asked her to come home?

Paulo Lemos was an economical botanist and he works for Harper Research. Paulo's main goal is the preservation of the Rain Forest. There were so many plants yet to be discovered that could benefit mankind. Paulo knows Sheba didn't want to come back there. She still had nightmares about her parents. Paulo plans to marry Sheba, he has dreamed of it all their lives. But does he have another darker reason for calling Sheba there?

Frank Cobb still works for Greg Forrester of Harper Research in an unofficial way. Grey called him in whenever they got a lead on one of their old adversaries, namely Quinton Alexander. Frank had a score to settle with that demon of the night. He didn't expect Grey to send him on a babysitting job, Peru no less. Frank was hired to protect a man named Paulo Lemos, one of Greg's top scientists. There had been a rash of murders and Forrester wasn't taking any chances this time.

Sheba fears the past, her dreams haunt her as visions of shadowy creatures stalk her soul. Had Paulo found the tomb where her parents were murdered? Sheba knew it was time to face the past; it was the only way she could finally move forward. She had to lay her night demons to rest. After all, she didn't believe in monsters and had disproved the legends about boogiemen and demons in the night. The moment Sheba meets Frank Cobb; she feels a connection with him. For some reason she felt safe with him. Could he help her destroy her demons?

Frank knew Sheba would be trouble for him the moment he saw her. Frank had learned the hard way not to get involved with anyone. As long as Quinton Alexander existed he had only one goal, to kill a vampire. Frank didn't care that Forrester wanted Alexander alive; that demon had destroyed too many lives. Now he was after Sheba and Frank had to stop him.

Nancy Gideon's Midnight series is truly a work of art. Her characters never lose their flavor as the story continues and Frank Cobb is once again on the trail of Quinton Alexander. Frank already burnt by love isn't ready to fall again so soon. But one look at Sheba and his resolve goes out the window. Sheba is suffering from a trauma as a child, but feels safe for the first time in 20 years in Frank's arms. But can she trust him? I was so pleased to see Frank get his own story as I found his character to be very strong in the previous book and believed him to be hero material. Ms. Gideon shows an endless ability to create stories that keep you coming back for more. If you love vampires and romance be sure to get Nancy Gideon's Midnight series. She delivers a story that will have you reading them again and again. I give her Five Hearts and look forward to the next chapter in this passionate and suspenseful series. Enjoy!
