| Cara Maloan is a sexy nightclub singer belonging to the Other, a group of paranormal beings coexisting alongside humans. Detective Todd Brooks comes into her life when a series of mysterious murders point to her as the lead suspect. All Todd knows when he meets Cara is that he is irresistibly drawn to her, even though he thinks she might be a killer. Even as Cara works to prove her innocence, she is wary in her dealings with Todd. Their mutual desire grows as they begin to trust each other and learn they'll need each other to catch the real killer.
Starting with a dead, naked body tied to a hotel really sets the tone for the whole book. The mystery behind the murders keeps the readers on edge, especially when unnatural markings and changes in MO throw a wrench into the investigation. At no point does this story lag. It is an unrelenting thrill ride from start to finish. The biggest thrill of them all, though, is the developing relationship between Todd and Cara. Todd is a no-nonsense cop who will not do anything to jeopardize the cases he works. He is also fiercely protective of those who matter to him, especially Cara. Cara is a strong character and reminds Todd that she can take care of herself when necessary. But she is also a sensitive woman who fears that no man will be able to fully accept her and her abilities. The sizzling heat these two generate any time they're close allows them both to let down their guard and open their hearts to each other. They can't keep their hands off each other and the sex between them is enough to melt the words right off the pages. But the tender moments when they share their vulnerabilities with each other cement their relationship. Though it would be easy to get lost in the emotions between Cara and Todd, the driving force of the murder investigation never fades. It provides a reason for them to get together and drives the story to its very satisfying conclusion.
