What a sweet love story! The book is unusual in its beautiful setting, its heart-wounded man and woman, and, especially, in its unique plot! The featured “couple” has both been wounded by others who have pretended love and loyalty but have taken advantage of each of them because of who they are and how much money they have earned. For the first half of the book, Mike Brooks does not even know Chris Brandt’s name! Of course, she does not realize this—not while she is running him off at gun point!

Mike loved to camp on the mountaintop because of its seclusion; he had traveled to his favorite spot several times but never met Chris—until she finds him after an especially traumatic fall off the side of the mountain. Chris and Liz were out riding and heard someone calling for help. These two ladies were backup members of the rescue team. Chris lived on the opposite side of the mountain—the side with the ranger’s building. Liz was well trained in rescue and since this was a prime spot for accidents, Chris had supplies stored under a rock nearby. What I haven’t told yet is that Liz is a Molly—a type of mule!

The ride together on the back of Liz proved uncomfortable to both Chris and Mike. Just a simple touch was awkward for each of them! The unintentional, sensual touches were more than either of them could comprehend. Needless to say, Ms. Tompkins characters are phenomenally written and their in-depth study made me feel as if they were part of my friendship circle! The story, as I mentioned, has a plot quite different from the norm; both were on the mountain, but neither knew the other until the accident. And Liz—that Molly had a marvelous personality!

I highly recommend this story—it is a light, fun read which you will thoroughly enjoy.
