Dr. Steven Cameron was a dedicated doctor, one of the finest in the children's wing at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. After five years there and dealing with countless patients he had programed himself to become immune to emotion. That was until thirteen year- old Ellie Stanton came to St. Francis. Ellie was dying and even with all of modern medicine and all his skills he felt useless. Eille never gave up her trust in her Dr. C and her one wish was to go home for Christmas and not to die. As much as he wanted to grant both he knew he could only give her one. He watched her leave the hospital that day knowing he would never see her smile at him again. Something happened to Steve, he knew somewhere he had to find the answers to help all the Ellie's of the world from dying. He left the hospital after Ellie left, wandering around for six years still trying to find the answer he so desperately seeked. Each day he would go to Central Park and sit on the bench. Sometimes he would run into Irma. Irma was a bag lady who found a gentle soul seeking answers to so many mysteries but more than that she found a man seeking his soul. She tells Steve about a little cabin away from the city and hectic life where he could relax and maybe find some answers to his problems.

With the address in his pocket Steve heads for the cabin not really expecting for find his answers but it was worth a try. In the forest hidden from view along the mist is the tiny village of Renaissance. Many say it doesn't exist but those who have been there know it does and only those gifted ones are lucky enough to find it . In this village Meghan Peese looks in her lantern. She sees Steve Cameron make his way toward the path that would soon lead him to the mist that covers the village.

Meghan knows that as a healer Steve is her next assignment, another lost soul that needs to be shown the path back. As Steve steps into the mist he steps into a new beginning for him. He falls in love with the gentle Meghan and though he knows he will soon have to leave he can't bear the thought of losing her. Meghan who was raised in Renaissance has only known the peace and safety of the village against the cruel outside world where she came from. Loving Steve was the one true miracle of her life yet she knew she could not leave the village.

Could this perfect village of peace, love and healing have a dark side? Would Steve leave the village and the woman he had come to love? Oh I just love these stories. I love the entire concept of the story. And since it is set here in NY makes it more believable to me. I will say that there is a wonderful surprise close to the end, not saying what it is but it does answer one of Steve's many questions. I like the characters and yes even the secondary ones bring more life to the story. I'm going up to Tarrytown and maybe I'll find that misty village.
