The New Creation cult is at it again in this second book of a series. Campbell Slade is getting even more powerful within the organization of El Jefe while Terrien Frye feels his power slipping. Dr. Georgene Channing uses experimental techniques to help her friend, Detective Payce Halligan. Throughout, Detectives Nick and Gavin try to find a murderer while battling because each wants a relationship with Payce.

P. I. Barrington pens a suspense full of futuristic gadgets in a United States that seems on the brink of total collapse. People will do just about anything for money just to survive. Character building is excellent as we get a look into Detective Gavin McAllister's past devastation while working in the United Kingdom. Not surprising is the deterioration in some of the players' mental status. They get involved in some scenarios that make even cult behavior look worse than what we may perceive it to be already.

Nick, Gavin, and Payce take center stage most of the time. The men who love the same woman have a bit of difficulty when they're forced to work together. Some of their dialogues are the best in the book. Payce is literally resurrected from the dead but manages to escape from the hospital. I'm not sure about the feasibility of some of the medical procedures and situations, even in the future. They do make for some interesting conjectures and, perhaps, a sense of hope that they may someday become reality.

Barrington writes well and keeps us guessing about how this will end. The cliff hanger at the end is as good as any done in series TV or in books. Readers may want to read all of the books close together for better continuity but this is a great look at future possibilities with lots of suspense.
