| Beatrice Shelton has just fled the home of her father, Vicar of Lyndenham, after a brutal beating at the hands of her father’s curate. Rather than coming to the aid of his daughter, the Vicar branded Beatrice a whore and blamed the attack on her. Beatrice is no longer able to withstand the abuse. Deciding she must flee her father’s home, despite the coming snowstorm, Beatrice makes her escape.
She escapes right into the welcoming arms of Sir Harold Boyd, Earl of Dunsmere, who finds her battered and collapsed in the road. Quickly though, he realizes this is no ordinary woman come falling into his path, this is a beauty who stirs him in ways he’s never experienced. To Beatrice, the earl’s beauty can only be explained as preternatural. He is too beautiful to be human and so he must be an angel. “Miss Beatrice’s Bottom” is a tale of hope. Though a short story, Sahara Kelly takes us on a journey from Beatrice’s despair to her sexual awakenings. Sahara Kelly’s writing flows superbly from the pages, and I found myself wishing the story were longer. I look forward to reading more of Sahara Kelly.
