Marshal Kendrick Parker was in St. Louis and received a telegram with information about Julian Carlman. His brother Brett needed the information as soon as possible because his wife Jenna was in trouble with the law in Adler Creek, Wyoming. The Marshal decided to head there in a wagon train, a two to three month journey. He stopped at the general store for a belated wedding gift for his brother and wife. He ran into Black Bette Barkley, a wanted bank robber and murderer.

Amanda Davis arrived in St. Louis to take a teaching position. She was casually looking around when a tall blonde lawman almost knocked her off her feet. His reaction was shocking. He spun her around and slapped handcuffs on her wrists, saying Elizabeth Barkley you're under arrest. Despite her protests he marched her off to jail. She soon found herself heading to San Fransico to stand trail for murder. For her own safety, the marshal had her pose as his wife while they traveled with the wagon train. Could she ever prove her innocence?

I love reading about the old west. I wish the author could of included more of the pioneer's hardships on the wagon train. She made it seem too easy. Also a few parts were a little too drawn out towards the end. Over all the story was interesting and the detail was well written. The main characters fit well in the story. Amanda was a prim and proper school teacher, just what you would expect. The marshall was an above average lawman and even believing Amanda was Black Bette, he still treated her with respect. You could tell he would be tough when he had to be, not a push-over.
