| Aleecia Fields is a woman hiding from the world at Table Rock Lake - and with good reason. Aleecia was born with gills, a condition that prevents her from leading a normal life and a secret she can never allow to be revealed. Trained from infancy in the ways of a Japanese warrior so that she might protect herself, Aleecia is powerful, lethal if she must be. But underneath it all she is like any normal woman. She longs for love, acceptance and someone to call her own.
Scott Mathis is a man hiding his pain and loneliness. Having lost his beloved wife and child in the terrorist attacks of 9/11, Scott struggles with resentment he feels for having his family ripped from him, of having been powerless to save them. A Master Diver and Instructor, Scott takes risks in his community service and rescue efforts, daring fate to take him as it did his family. When his work brings him to Table Rock Lake, he encounters the beautiful Aleecia and he is immediately intrigued by her. While the attraction between these two lost souls is instantaneous, the chain of events that their meeting sparks reveals a conspiracy that points ultimately to the US Government - and puts their lives in serious danger. The Mistress of Table Rock dazzles on many levels. The author's clever use of conspiracy and intrigue, not to mention his careful detail and research, gives his book a gritty realism and the strong pace of an action/adventure story. But what charmed this reviewer was the loving relationship he builds between Aleecia and Scott. There is such warmth in the author's voice, care and humor. While the sensual scenes were everything, and more, that an erotic fiction fan might hope for, it is Mr. Casteel's understanding of the human heart that makes this story shine.
