| Mistress Of The Night takes place in London, the year is 1818. Madeline Brydges, daughter of the Earl of Penrick is in love. Ever since she first laid eyes on Blaine, the Earl of Hardcastle she can think of nothing else. Her father has started demanding that she make a decision to accept a husband soon. Several men have come to him asking permission to court her. She will have nothing to do with them. Blaine is a recluse and is rarely seen in public. He has noticed Madeline and would like nothing more than to spend time with the beautiful redhead. But Blaine has a secret. He fears that if this secret became known it would ruin his family and have him committed. Although Blaine fights his attraction to Madeline she will not give up on their love.
Mistress Of The Night the title refers to another name for the tuber rose. This flower will play a part in the story of Blaine and Madeline. This story takes place in regency England. A time when young men are busy gambling and making conquests. This is a time when people are expected to attend musicals and balls. This story explains how much Blaine will risk for his family to be seen at some of these places. This character is very vulnerable and has a history of abuse that effects how he thinks about himself. He has never known love and is very afraid of loving anyone. He is afraid how others will look at him if they were to learn his secret. Madeline is a person that sees within people. She knows when people have been hurt. She is a caring person and will go out of her way to help the needy. But she is naïve to the ways of love and she herself risks being hurt. The setting in the early 1800's shows how people are looked at when they are different. My perception of the plot is that love will find a way. When someone loves you enough you can face anything together. I feel this was developed beautifully within the writings of Charlotte Featherstone. She brings the story to life through her descriptive writing. The dialogue flows smoothly and makes for easy reading. This is an emotionally stimulating read. The romance is passionate and highly stimulating.
