After her parents are killed in a car accident, Jeni Barrett goes to live with her older brother, Harry, but she feels she needs something more in her life. While Harry insists she further her education, she chooses to be an entertainer. Singing is in her blood and one day she will make it big. With her eighteenth birthday only two weeks away, she is approached by Mitch Dallman, the manager for Tony LaMont, a big country singer, who invites her to Minneapolis for an interview and possible singing position. Jeni is beyond excited. She never dreamed of becoming a success or finding love along the way, especially with Mitch. Nor did she expect all the dangerous consequences that came with being a star. Mitch cares for Jeni. His love is so strong that he chooses to keep it hidden so not to jeopardize her rising success to stardom, not to mention their age differences. He refuses to allow anything to put a damper on her career until Jeni is attacked by a fan. It is a moment where Jeni learns she can still be a rising star and have a true love if she will only take the initiative.

Mocking Bird is a delightful read that spells inspiration all throughout the pages. It tells of a young woman’s struggle, after her parent’s death, to go after her dream. Jeni shows courage and determination as she sets and maintains goals in her life. Mitch is a sweet person that is torn for his love for Jeni and desiring her life to be prosperous with what she wants in life without interfering with her dreams. Once again Sherry Derr-Wille has written a delightful heart-felt story that leaves the reader with a feel good feeling. She makes her characters true to life and instills some situations along the way that makes it realistic. Mocking Bird is a captivating story that I enjoyed.
