Gareth Pendragon, a paranormal private investigator, gets called by Vicki Northon, his nephew’s current girl friend, to a grizzly murder scene. Seems his nephew has gotten his face blown off from the inside out after getting a weird message on his computer. Soon Pen and Vicki are tracking down a serial killer who starts to taunt them with poems and hints about the next crime. Somehow they’re always just a step behind. When Vicki is added to the list of soon-to-be-murder-victims the ante is raised and they’re literally racing the clock to catch this psychopath who wants to become a Mayan god.

T. K. Sheils really knew how to put a mystery together. I think this one will keep everyone guessing right up to the very last pages as to who the villain really is. The murders get more and more gruesome as the perp gets closer to the twenty body parts wanted. This story takes online shopping to a whole different level as each victim is entranced by an internet message that makes weird things happen. Pen and Vicki get closer and closer to the murderer and to one another in the way of two sexy individuals and in their own unique way. Seems Vicki finds she has psychic powers far superior to Pen’s when she mixes anger with their passion.

Pen is not your usual superhero P.I. Seems he has the sex appeal, gallows humor and weaknesses of Tom Selleck playing Magnum with a great cabdriver character substituting for the Ferrari! Vicki seems to be the half that makes Pen whole as her humor, chutzpa mixed with moments of insecurity and of course her body seem to keep him enthralled.

There are a bunch of great scenes in this book along with a side story about airline crews that are a real hoot. Two femme fatales want Pen’s attention, the cocky murderer wants to play them and everyone else seems to want to avoid the issues by having sex. From first page to last this is an excellent mystery. Romance with those frustrating build ups to passion interrupted by emails and phone calls have us almost as chagrined as our hero and heroine. I don’t think any reader will be disappointed with this superb romantic suspense.
