| Rejected by his family for loving someone they thought was beneath him, Sam Carson has made his own way in life. When his wife died he decided commitment was not for him, casual had to be his style. Ally Giordano lost her parents ten years ago when they left her with her grandmother. Her style has become aloof, fitting a woman much older than her almost twenty-five years. Can these two grow through their pain to find love through the machinations of an old woman who isn't sure what year it is?
Diana Holquist pens a tale that evokes every emotion we can feel when a book touches us. We can laugh at the confusion and silliness, cry at the sadness that life sometimes brings. And we're left with that sense of satisfaction that comes with reading a story that draws us in on every page. The characters become real people whose lives draw us in. We can feel we know them, root for them, empathize with them. Sam, Ally, Mateo and Granny Donny are built lovingly and well. Secondary characters like the doormen, the friends, Paula the horse, and others are excellent additions who move the story and make it even better. We get a book within a book as the modern people resort to living as if they were in a nineteenth century Regency romance to help them cope emotionally with their current pains. Ms. Holquist makes this an exquisite romance within a truly unique setting and plot. This is one of those books that won't let you put it down. It moves quickly from person to person and scenario to scenario and we don't want to miss the sense of continuity. This is a real masterpiece, well worth the read.
