At a truck stop in the middle of nowhere, Zoey Ryder is trying to get a ride to anywhere. Thinking that there is safety in numbers, she hooks up with another vagabond, after all, you don't often hear of two bodies being found in a ditch at the side of the road. Unfortunately, her fellow traveler is found passed out in the grubby ladies room. Zoey is waylaid by an incredibly handsome trucker who offers her a ride. The sexy night manager of the truck stop, on the other hand, is insisting that she at least stay until the police arrive, something Zoey really wants to avoid. She escapes into Lou's truck and waits for the police to finish, with a soft drink that he has provided. Her drink is drugged, and though she manages to get out of the truck, she is trapped in a drug-induced hallucination, that may or may not be partially real.

This is an entertaining, though sometimes confusing tale. The traveling companion never gets a name, and we never find out what happened to her. Zoey's trip to her high school French class is bizarre, but kind of fun. I didn't realize that the position of night manager of a truck stop in upstate New York was so dangerous or complicated. Zoey and John's relationship is well written and fast paced, but I would have liked a little more of the battle between John and Lou and a little more resolution. Zoey's drugged state seemed to take away from that. Overall, I enjoyed the tale and would recommend it to someone looking for a fast paced werewolf tale.
