Chloe Stevens has run out of options. After having lost her job and her car, been evicted from her apartment and tossed out on the street with barely enough money in her pocket to pay for a hotel room and a "Happy Meal," she resorts to doing the one thing she'd sworn she would never do--seek help from the man who had impregnated her five months ago, then disappeared from her life as if he'd never existed.

Michael cared for Chloe, perhaps just a little too much, which is why he ran off after their all-too-brief affair. As the youngest wolf of the Ashton Grove clan, Michael enjoyed playing the field too much to settle down, but just being with Chloe made him yearn for things he didn't think he was ready for yet. Things he didn't want to be ready for, yet. But she carried his child, and if he ever hoped to have any part in Chloe as well as their baby's life, he knew he had a lot make up for. Except, Michael has his own share of pride and instead of treading carefully and wooing her; he plays the heavy hand and pushes her right into the arms of another werewolf, who has no problems at all seeing Chloe as his mate.

Moonlight Guardian (Book 3 of the Ashton Grove Werewolves series) is a highly entertaining read that is light on the paranormal. The Ashton Grove Werewolves are all very fascinating, dominant males, but other than two of the males turning into wolf-like doggies and one alpha pack leader, they could be any group of male siblings rife with testosterone rivalry. Ms. Smith does a creditable job of painting Chloe's plight. I did question, however, one particular decision of Chloe's that seemed to go against her independent character. Ms. Smith does explain her heroine's reasons, so the action itself it is not totally without justification. All-in-all, I found Moonlight Guardian to be a most enjoyable story that was difficult to put down. Ms. Smith also does a wonderful job making sure new readers don't feel left out when reading Book 3 of her werewolf series. I had no difficulty understanding the characters and their relationships even though this is the first and only book of the series that I've read. In addition, Ms. Smith gives a delightful sneak peek into book four that is sure to tempt readers who love fantasies come to life.
