| Moonshadows is one of those books where you get two stories for the price of one. We have the present day story featuring Jessica Skelton and Piers Cordeaux intermingled with their ancestor’s story set in 1746. Both stories feature similarities in that Jessica is currently in a relationship and her ancestor, Sarah is married with children. The two Cordeaux men come along and mix everything up.
Sarah’s story was very poignant. She is a young woman married to an older man and has two young children. They are minor nobility and come to town. Sarah’s first appearance at Court brings a meeting with the Earl of Cordeaux. Ms. Hammond does a wonderful job making us feel Sarah’s emotions. The excitement, the confusion of feelings for the wrong man and then the shame when she is presented with an ultimatum. I found this part of the book heartbreaking. Then we come to Jessica’s story, in the present day. I found Piers Cordeaux to be a very well grown character. I would love to have a man like this in my life. Jessica is the one who gave me problems. Her insistence on staying in a relationship that clearly wasn’t one she was content with irritated me and almost ruined the story. Most women nowadays who are in a relationship but not married or engaged and then meet someone like a Piers Cordeaux will at least seriously think about ending the relationship they are in. They don’t usually keep trying to find excuses to stay in it. Overall, the two stories were nicely interwoven and well written. I do recommend Moonshadows to anyone who likes a past story mixed with a present day story mixed with a little paranormal.
