| Lily Yu is an FBI agent on vacation with her lupus mate who's fighting for custody of his nine year old son, Toby. Lily, Rule, and other law enforcement officials with paranormal powers search for a killer who seems to possess the body of innocent victims.
Eileen Wilks continues this great series of stories involving a world that's been turned on its collective ears. A phenomenon that released magic of such magnitude that even so-called normal people may have some level of unique power is changing the way people think. Seems the change has created a new bigotry that rivals racial prejudice as a way to judge and separate people. Rule is coping with trying to figure a way to handle being in charge of two lupus clans with an animosity between them that is legendary. Toby's young friend Talia is being pressured by ghosts. One of them seems preoccupied by getting a cigar, the others with varying levels of insanity driving them. The story is enchanting and has a level of suspense that keeps driving us as the search for the killer seems frustrated at every turn. It pulls me in with the love shared by the extended family surrounding Lily, Rule, Toby and grandmother Louise Asteglio. The conversations between Toby and his dad show some excellent parenting skills. Characters we've met in other books of the series continue in this one with powers and personalities we've come to look forward to. This is one of those series of books that can each be a stand alone read. Ms. Wilks give us enough continuity to keep us from being frustrated. Reading them all will only enhance your reading pleasure. The author has a great writing style with characters and dialogue easy to read and a storyline that makes us want more.
