Jensen Marlow leaves England as a stowaway on the Budeaux Merchant a ship on it's way to Virginia and her freedom. Disguised as a young boy she is not only running from her overbearing uncle but also Brant Mansfield, a brash, arrogant man who her uncle has promised her in marriage to. She sees that a marriage to Brant would only make her only a trophy and she didn't love him.

After forty days on board a fate worse than the bowels of hell the ship docks in Virginia and what Jensen hopes to be her freedom. That dream is gone when she is sold to Levi North who is seeking a stable boy. Though he feels the lad is a bit puny he still agrees to take him and they head for his home Moss Rose. On the way there Levi discovers that he is really a she. When his younger brother sees that even under all that dirt Jensen is truly a rare beauty Levi begins to become not only protective but interested in her. He tries to find out more about this slip of a girl who he has taken under his roof yet he finds every story she tells him is false. Jensen's main goal is to leave Moss Rose and find her aunt who she has come to Virginia to see.

She finally sees that she has no choice but to stay at Moss Rose for here she at least is safe from anyone looking for her. Or is she? Is she safe from the strong willed Levi who now is becoming more interested in her? The story has all the ingredients weaved into a wonderful love story and I for one found it excellent.

The author has painted a vivid image of the characters with words that the characters comes to life on each page. I loved the book and recommend it to all those who like me are romantics at heart.
