| Thea Warren has moved back home to solve her mother's murder. After going through a horrific car accident and a miserable divorce, she's ready to get back to the security of living in her small home town. She's being stalked by her mother's killer, and she's determined to solve the mystery of who killed her all those years ago. Duncan Perry is the town Sherriff, and best friends with Thea's brother. He's always looked at Thea as a younger sister, but when he sees her for the first time in years he's surprised and disturbed at the non-brotherly feelings she stirs in him. And when he discovers her reasons for moving back home, he's furious at the thought of her putting herself in danger.
I loved this book! It was incredibly suspenseful - my heart was still pounding after I finished reading it. Ms. Schroeder provided enough suspects that it kept me guessing, but not so many that it became ridiculous. And the cast of secondary characters was fabulous! I'm really hoping that Duncan's brother Chase will get his own story - he was a total charmer. Thea was great as a strong heroine who also knew when to accept help. She was practical without being cynical, and I loved how she put her ex-husband in his place when he tried to manipulate her into doing what he wanted her to. Duncan was definitely the sexy alpha hero, but he was also able to let Thea be strong and fight her own battles. The interaction between him and a couple of the other alpha male types was hilarious! Lots of sexual tension, and the sex itself was fabulous - erotic and emotional. The ending was enough of a surprise that I didn't feel cheated or as though my intelligence had been insulted. It all fit together really well and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. This book was my idea of a perfect romantic suspense.
