| Katie Sara has mixed memories of the town of Paradox. Until her father was arrested for embezzlement, her childhood was happy, but afterward her memories are bittersweet. She was forced to leave behind her childhood sweetheart now, football star, Reiner as well as the condemning citizens of the town. Now all grown up and a teacher Katie is back in Paradox as a combination Sex Ed and Physical Education teacher because her father wanted to be buried in his hometown. This is a comedown for the college professor, but she will do almost anything for her beloved father. As luck would have it, Reiner is back in Paradox also. They are still attracted to each other, but a secret Katie Sara has kept may keep them apart forever.
This is a very well written story that had me laughing and crying at times. The author has combined believable characters with an engrossing plot that will had me hooked from the first page. Both Reiner and Katie Sara are very different people from the teenagers who fell in love twelve years before and the secret between them is a pretty substantial one. Reiner's niece Felicity and her introduction to a new town and school and Katie Sara's best friend Rhonda and her life provide two very interesting subplots. The author captures life in a small town and its interesting inhabitants very well. I got very involved in Katie and Reiner's struggles to the point where time flew by and the story was over before I knew it.
