| Mountain Trails by Julia Talbot follows the developing relationships of a group of friends and strangers and how one summer changes their lives completely. Chip is a rafting guide, during a summer rafting trip he finds himself attracted to Carlo, one of the his customers. Danny and Gage are Chips roommates and Aaron is a friend who falls for Bryce, a friend of one of his other friends. How will each of these different men find their place in these new and tender relationships? Follow the mountain trails and see where they lead.
Mountain Trails is really a series of vignettes with Chip and Carlo and their May-December relationship as the core story. Carlo lives on the other side of the state from Chip and although the intent of both men was just a one night stand they found that feelings ran much deeper very quickly for both of them. I really enjoyed their story and wish that the focus has stayed on them more often. While I found the other couples and their relationships fun and exciting to read about I really connected with Chip and Carlo and couldn’t wait to get back to them. Danny and Gage were interesting as men who were roommates and lived with a series of assumptions that kept them apart until they were forced to face their attraction. Aaron and Bryce was a sweet and loving couple and the running joke of a kinky cowboy really cracked me up. Whether they were tender or rough these stories within a story made for a few hours of delightful reading. With Julia Talbot’s strong plot building skill and deft hand at characterization, Mountain Trails, is a book that will stick with me for a long time, I can only hope that Ms. Talbot revisits Chip and Carlo and tells us what happens next.
