Kauai Police Chief Kane Travers is on vacation. Kind of. It’s more like administrative leave while his job is on the line, but if Internal Affairs want to call it a “vacation,” well then, so be it. He’s not sure what he is going to do for the remainder of his vacation, but when a naked woman washes up on the beach by his house, he figures he’s found a way to pass the time. He brings her into his house and to the shower to help her warm up. The situation only becomes more intriguing when the woman wakes up and swears she has amnesia.

Annie Parks has revenge on her mind and not even being thrown overboard while naked and nearly drowning is going to stop her. Neither is Kane. He may be Police Chief, but Annie has learned that the law does not want to seem to help her. Annie has her reasons for her secrecy, for her “amnesia” and it all revolves around getting out of Kane’s home and getting back to her plan. But before she quite realizes how it is happening, Annie is starting to become involved in Kane’s life. It is the intricacies of Kane’s heart, his brain, and his emotions that are interesting Annie more than her plan of revenge. But, she knows she has to accomplish her goal.

Kane never thought he would fall in love again but the mysterious and brash Annie shows him that love arrives in the most unexpected of packages.

While for the most part enjoyable, Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy’s one major flaw is that the “humorous” and “sexy” dialogue between Kane and Annie becomes annoying and tiresome as the story goes on. What starts out as a great opener, with their witty and sarcastic banter quickly deteriorates into dialogue that takes away from what could be closer emotional depth between Kane and Annie. Sarcasm and humor can only be used for so long before it needs to be replaced with something deeper and I felt Ms. Dimon did not necessarily provide that deeper element.

The romance nevertheless moves swiftly forward as Kane and Annie learn about each other and the mystery that Annie is tied up with. Ms. Dimon cleverly ties the Kane and Annie’s goals together, creating a strong bond between them. I also really enjoyed Kane’s humor as a native Hawaiian. He had some great one-liners! Kane exudes a real sense of comfort, protectiveness and sex appeal that is definitely hard to resist and he does become, for the most part, a good balance against Annie’s very blunt personality.

HelenKay Dimon still grabs my attention with this book. While a few issues stood out, Your Mouth Drives Me Crazy still has an appealing romance and is peopled with genuine characters. She is definitely an author on the rise!
