Lily Madison met Pete Kelly near the campus in 1986. Both were in school at the University of California, Berkeley Campus. Both were in danger of not being able to pay for their last semester of their education. They, as had many others, took advantage of a sperm bank and the egg donor clinic which was located near the school. Embarrassed, they did what had to be done to complete their schooling. A chance meeting after their appointments gave them their first, and only, contact with each other.

Twenty years later, neither was married but they had each become successful in their chosen careers. Each was invited to a fund raiser at their alma mater and they both decided to attend. When they ran into each other at the airport, old feelings and attractions resurfaced. They were both mesmerized when they heard a special, breaking news report concerning the sperm bank/egg donor clinic each had visited. One of the children who was on the run looked exactly like Pete. He was also the perfect age to by his biological son.

This is my first Fern Michaels book in years. It proved to be an incredibly intense, convoluted plot with a myriad of supporting characters. These people included a body guard, a newspaper reporter, a senator, secretaries and teenaged children, just to name a few. This storyline was intertwined so that it was never easy to imagine what would happen next. It had me spellbound and anxious to see what happened next. Her writing style proved why she has maintained her great following through the years.

This is a different type book than any I’ve ever read. It is fabulous and one that I can highly recommend to everyone. Michaels’ success with this book will probably exceed many of her previous works. You will be thrilled to read this book.
