Ginney Pembrook loved to “help” God fix things. She was sure that she knew what He wanted and how He wanted things to work out. She even knew years ago that God meant for her to marry Caleb Jasper, a rancher who was going to be a traveling evangelist, and be a preacher’s wife. Caleb, however, now had a different calling. He was supposed to preach until his father was injured and lost his leg. That left him to run the ranch even though he hated it and his brother, Beau, had been groomed by their ailing father to succeed him in the business.

This writing pair, L.C. Monroe and Nicolette Derens, did a great job of telling this story. The multiple supporting characters were well-developed, even though the main couple was certainly able to stand alone. The supporting cast was the family of Caleb and the extended family of Ginney. All were farming families who had lost very important parts of their lives. The authors showed precisely how the families were able to cope through their trust in God. This was done without preaching or trying to force religion down the throats of the readers.

The source of the strength of the families of Pendleton, Oregon was obviously their trust and faith in God. This truth was woven throughout the storyline but the plot was not without its own marvelous twists. This is not a preachy bookfar from it. It was a frank discussion of how our individual lives can be molded with faith or submission to the Bible. It is not so religious that it will override the magnificent story. I honestly loved this book and am thankful to have been able to read it. This is certainly a side of Ms. Monroe that I’ve never experienced before. However, I will consciously look for others written by her and/or Ms. Derens. I wholeheartedly recommend that you enjoy this book for yourself. You will definitely not be sorry.
