In the time period of this story (mid 21st century), the human population has nearly been wiped out and paranormal creatures like shape shifters and vampires have come out of the shadows and joined the general population. But there are still “people” who are racist and only want to see their kind breed with their kind. Roni Engelmann is a Chuskie, half Siberian Husky and half Chihuahua shifter. Most people consider her a mutt. She has recently met the perfect man, Corbin Thornburn, who she thinks is human. He really is a purebred werewolf. Neither set of parents are going to support a relationship between these two. Will Roni and Corbin be able to go against their parents wishes? Do they really want to? Or are they doomed to be there centuries Romeo and Juliet?

This is a really cute shape shifter story. It is humorous while delivering a subtle message about how ridiculous arguments can be about racial purity. How would you like your tail to come out and wag when you are excited? The couple is also vocal when they are involved and there is a lot of howling and barking, too funny! I like both Corbin and Roni, who are alpha personalities and that is important in their were societies but for the reader it means they each know their own minds and go after what they want. I loved the humorous way this story is handled and I am very glad that it is the first book of a series. I am looking forward to the next installment.
