| Ben Murphy is the last of his family. The Murphy's

particularly guilty about the death of his younger
brother, Chris. Ben feels that he should have died
instead of Chris and begins taking crazy chances
almost as if he wants to die also. His captain, a
family friend, finally gets fed up. He makes Ben take
time off and sends him to a rental house to think
about what he wants to do with his life. Ben, angry
at the inteference, sulks and drinks. The ghost of
his brother Chris tries to reason with him, but it
takes a local volunteer, Kate Donahue, to finally get
through to him.
This short work is one of the best stories I have read in a long time. The characters are very real and sympathetic, and the romance between Ben and Kate is very entertaining. The paranormal aspects of the story aren't overpowering or unbelievable, just warm and helpful. I always like Ms. Sams work, but this is outstanding, even for her.
