| Desperate to escape marrying a brutal man, Lilias Merrit takes the advice of
her gypsy friend and
leaves her village to acquire a position at Breme Castle, the only safe
haven available. But when
Lilias meets her new employer, Lord Breme, she realizes she's in more danger
than before. Lilias
had heard rumors about the mad, beastly Lord Breme, but she never expected
such a monster. The
horrible scars on his face do not frighten her, but his dark, fierce moods,
which appear suddenly,
leave her apprehensive and confused. And the curious longing she feels for
him only adds to her
confusion.
Aubrey Drelincorte, the Earl of Breme, has returned from India to face a murder charge. All he remembers about his wife's death is awakening to find a warm pistol in his hand and a leopard standing over his wife's gunshot body. While Aubrey longs to remember what happened, he's afraid to learn the truth because he fears it will prove he truly is the beast many believe him to be. Fearing he'll be convicted of murder, Aubrey plans to find a bride and sire an heir to keep his devious cousin from inheriting Breme. He wants Lilias, but will she marry a hideous wretch who might be a murderer? MY LORD BEAST, which takes place in the mid-1800s, is a thoroughly intriguing story. The mystery and romance of this book capture you on the first page and never let go. Lilias is a strong, plucky heroine, with a terrible sense of direction. Aubrey, the epitome of a tortured hero, never seems weak, even when he's full of doubts and fears. I hope Ms. Lennox plans on making Ram Dass, Aubrey's right-hand man, the hero in a future book. I'm sure it will be as captivating as this one.
