| Dave Harris is a Seattle cop with the so-called honor of having a serial killer pick his patrol district. At the third bloody crime scene the FBI shows up tracking what now looks like a multi-state killing spree. One of the agents, Robbie Taylor, is a psychic with the bureau. He wastes no time getting on the trail of the killer or suggesting that Dave share his bed, his life and the hunt with him.
Just when I think G. A. Hauser is one of the best authors around she steps up the caliber of her stories another notch. This is a superbly written thriller as Agent Taylor seems to be right on the tail of the criminal. He gets so close that the killer starts personalizing the crimes, letting him know he’s aware of him. The author’s attention to detail draws me into this story like she has every time. When there’s action like chasing the criminal or the eroticism between Dave and Robbie it gets to be almost like watching a movie. The text is rich, the action is fast and complex, the dialogue is realistic and the relationships seem so real I feel like I get to know the characters as people. Maybe it’s because her bio says she spent time working on the Seattle PD but, whatever the reason, she seems to know the workings of a police force. That also helps to make it more realistic as we sit in on morning roll call, the locker room chats about the crimes, the paperwork trail. As a long time fan of suspense stories I found this one to be one of the best I’ve read for a long time.
