He'd found the king dying and since he was the one that found him, he was pointed to as the killer by his enemies. While trying to fight off his captors, the woman earth doctor he'd been attracted to manages to drug him into submission. If he ever gets free he is going to be sure to make her pay for it.
Harlan took this assignment as a doctor on a planet far away from her home on earth because she wanted to get away from her life back there. Everything was going well until the king died. Now she's being forced to drug the man who is thought to be guilty of killing the king to subdue him, or end up in prison with him. The new king is threatening her life and her livelihood if she doesn't comply with what he wants. It gets even worse when she finds Gavin has escaped… and landed right in her home. This story started out well, but I had a problem with it when it seemed like the romance between Gavin and Harlan kept starting and stopping. It was very frustrating, because just when I thought something would happen… it didn't. I liked Gavin a lot because he was a rough soldier with a lot of character, who had no intention of slowing down for Harlan, and Harlan was a tough woman in a difficult spot. What I didn't like is that one minute it seemed like they were really into each other, the next one of them was doing something that made a relationship seem impossible. I really liked the story though, and I definitely want to know what happens next. There is a lot going on in this fast-paced story, you won't want to miss a minute.
