| Mackenzie is a homicide cop that is working an unusual series of murders. A woman is doing the murders, to men who are submissive and into the BDSM scene. To Mackenzie, they hit close to home because he is a submissive. A highly respected cop, he doesn't want anyone to know what his lifestyle is, but feels he is the only one that can get close enough to find out what is going on. With his sergeants permission he goes undercover at a high class BDSM club to find the murderer. His first night there, he meets Violet, a dominatrix who decided that she wants him. Mackenzie is more that willing to play the game, because he knows Violet could help him find the murderer. But Violet plays for keeps, and she may break down his shields and challenge him in ways he never anticipated.
I have read Joey Hill's stories before and enjoyed them, and I think that this is her best work yet. I couldn't put it down. She has a unique way of writing about the BDSM lifestyle that leaves you with a deeper appreciation of what being a dominatrix or a submissive is all about. This book is extremely explicit, doesn't spare on the BDSM, so it is not for the faint at heart (hot, hot, hot!!). However, the BDSM is done with such class and good story telling that you never feel that you are reading something that is abnormal or just plain porn. The relationship between Mackenzie and Violet is a give and take type of relationship, with neither one taking or giving more than the other can handle. Mackenzie comes across as a strong man, willing to give everything to the right woman. You never once feel that he is weak in character. You can tell the two people in this story feel deeply for one another, and that is part of what gives this story such appeal. The characters are well rounded and fully developed, and I found myself getting deeply immersed in the plot. I rarely read books more than once, but I know that I will be coming back to this one again. Awesome story!
