| Cybil Austin has to get away from her controlling mother who is constantly stopping by and interrupting while Cybil writes her Regency romances. After falling in love with Shady Oaks she expects to spend her time writing without interruption but she didn't plan for the construction crew working on the renovations under the guidance of her contractor C. Maxwell Maitland. If the sounds of hammering and sawing aren't enough to distract her then the site of Max in his work jeans definitely will. Cybil's dictatorial mother is trying to get her to leave, as are the ghosts who do not like the changes she is making. Will Cybil settle into her new home and have a peaceful future with the ghosts and Max?
This was one pleasant ghost story. I'm still smiling from the antics of all the characters both living and dead. I found Cybil so easy to relate to and I am so jealous she got to buy and renovate that lovely house. She was such a true to life heroine dealing with her overbearing mother and clone sisters while trying to figure out her new feelings for Max. I believe she is someone I would definitely befriend. Max is just so solid, he could be any many and yet what makes him so special is that he's the perfect man for Cybil. The fact he is so gun shy just makes him more authentic. The full cast of secondary characters are well developed and so entertaining. For all the trouble she caused her daughter, "Martha" was a hoot to read about. I don't want to give away anything but I loved Cybil's interactions with the ghosts as it had me giggling and sometimes laughing uncontrollably. The internal dialogue was witty and enjoyable yet a few of the comments made about a larger-sized woman came across as more mean-spirited rather than amusing. This was such a fun story and a must-read for those who fancy numerous chuckles along with their lingering kisses. This diverse author definitely earns a spot on my to be read list.
