| The archangel Michael seeks out Raven in the pit to ask for help. A dangerous fallen angel, Azriel, has escaped his prison and now seeks a woman who is half-Nephilim and half-human. Nephilims were worshipped as gods by humans and had vampires and beastmen as slaves before being defeated in war and exiled. Raven must find the woman before Azriel does and get her to Alaric the vampire. Then Alaric will call for the beastman Figlio, hoping he and Charity fall in love. In return for this, he will win his freedom and be welcomed back into heaven.
Charity is marrying a man she doesn't love, in a dress and hairstyle she hates, in a church that she considers cold rather than holy when it happens. At first, everyone thinks it is a hurricane. But when a huge, white-haired man, who obviously isn't human, stalks into to church, they realize it's not weather. They believe he is the devil when pews fly away as he walks by them. He stalks towards Charity and flings people into walls with nothing more than a flick of his hand. He's beautiful, and when he reaches Charity, she begins feeling desire and more. He claims to be an angel but a black-winged man with the skin of a snake comes up from the floor and battles him, taking Charity as prisoner. He flies away with her and eventually she wakes up, naked, in a strange bedroom. The man who greets her after she wakes has a beautiful face and she asks who he is, only to figure it out on her own when she sees his snake-like skin. She then faints. When the human woman faints, Raven begins noticing her body, and the fact that he feels desire for her. He wakes her up with kisses and begins to seduce her, only to stop when he realizes how dangerous it would be for an angel and a half-Nephilim to make love. All I can say about Raven is WOW! He reminded me of some of Linda Howard's more recent heroes, all brooding intensity and dark sensuality. Raven has now gone on my list of favorite heroes of all time. The sexual tension that began early in the book was exquisitely done and, even without the action-packed fantasy plot, kept the pages turning. It was incredibly hard to stop reading to do other things and the story stayed on my mind until I finished it. The story caught me from the very beginning and never let go! The Nephilim War: Book One was amazing and I cannot wait for the second one to be available! My biggest complaint was the "To Be Continued" at the end of the book, which I absolutely hated.. Erotic romance fans will definitely want to pick this book up, and likely so will fantasy romance fans! In truth, I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for an amazing romance, especially for those who like theirs on the spicier side.
