| In the early 1800's in Louisiana, a young wealthy woman named Eliza Fontaine lives a free and fanciful life. Her doting father lets her live a life of freedom - morning rides astride her horse and a choice of marriage for love. When her father goes on a trip and leaves her to her own devises she plans on kicking up her skirts and having fun. When handsome Winston Keeling appears to purchase a horse from their stables, Eliza cannot help but be intrigued by this man. When her father is reported as being killed during a storm crossing the ocean she is distraught and believes her life over… but her troubles have just begun.
Rafe Hamilton, still reeling from the horrific death of his sister, goes on journey to bring his sister's killer to justice. He tracks down his foe's next victim and is surprised by his reaction to the beautiful and vivacious Eliza. She has unknowingly let the beast into her life, and it is quite possible Eliza's father was killed by the very man pursuing her - Winston Keeling. In an attempt to thwart Winston's plan of marrying Eliza for her money and thus taking over her father's role on the plantation, Rafe and Eliza vow to marry for the sake of flushing out Winston and to save Eliza's life. Can they destroy Winston Keeling? Will they always look over their shoulders for the man that killed Eliza's father? Can they make a marriage of convenience into something "more"? Add in a helpful ghost and some wry humor and you have a very enjoyable historical novel. Rafe is too good for words and Eliza is not a simpering southern belle. A very entertaining book!
