Laura Palmer was a college educated, independent thinker. Lord Lanyon was not looking for a wife but once he met Laura, he had to have her. Happily, Laura felt the same way about him. Her mother was thrilled and invited Nathaniel to their soiree, hoping Laura would find him to be a suitable husband. After they married, they traveled to his home, Wolfram Abby. It was ancient place built in the sixteenth century and once used as a nunnery. Though Laura was not unhappy, she felt Nathaniel held back his feelings and their home held old secrets, she was determined to figure out. Would she ever feel truly happy?

I loved the way the author included Laura's fashions. The detailed description of her clothes and also her surroundings helped put me in their world. I liked all the characters especially her Aunt Dora. She was like a modern gypsy woman, giving parties to her artsy friends and reading tarot cards. The plot was interesting and the added mystery kept me riveted. The novel kept me wondering until the end.
