Veterinarian Jazz Thompson works in a violent and sordid area of Thorne City. One night, as she is shutting down her clinic, her car is firebombed. Aggravated but aware of the problems, she calls 911. She is cynical and has hidden her heart away. Ossian, a wood-elf who drives a taxi, picks Jazz up at her clinic to drive her home. Although he only has a small amount of pre-cog ability, Ossian is aware that something is after Jazz. Jazz, a beautiful black woman, is not interested in white men-until she meets Ossian. Ossian is finally aware that a serial psy-vamp, who gorges and feeds on his victim's pain and fear, is after Jazz. Can they fight magic with magic and make it out alive?

Night Moves is an amazing book of love and hate, fear and discovery. Jazz and Ossian fall in love, even though Jazz keeps pushing away. They have graphic and erotic sex, sex that had me trembling in my chair. I found myself rereading their sexual encounters. I was just enthralled as Ossian taught Jazz about the magic in life and together they worked at defeating the evil. The characters, including the psy-vamp, are so well described that I was able to believe in magic. Magic can be both good and evil and both types were used here. Jazz is a veterinarian and sick animals figured largely as characters in this book. One way that Jazz knew that she could trust Ossian was by his attitude to her animals. The plot was seamless and there was nothing missing. Ms. Karmazin has a wonderful ability to tell her story and draw her readers into it. Night Moves was no exception.
