Fynn Adder has only been working in the Night Shift Division for a couple of years when he gets a new partner. Simon Murphy is undergoing training and still has a lot to learn. Just when he and Fynn get a good working relationship established, a sadistic serial killer who preys on young children terrorizes the city. With everything else going on in his life, Fynn is at risk of hitting the bottle again. Simon also has a few personal issues to deal with. Meanwhile, the killer gets more brazen, upping the ante in this game of evil. Will the insidious effects of stress weaken Fynn's defenses causing life at home to bear the brunt of this investigation?

The second book in the Night Wars series has all the crazy, weird paranormal elements of the first one. It also has the likeable, well-written characters and engaging plot that held my interest. The story resumes seamlessly as Fynn is deeply entrenched in his new job, handling his personal demons positively and enjoying domestic life with his partner Jack. I really like this series and the continuing saga of the bizarre world the author has created is very interesting. I would have liked a little more romance with the gripping suspense but it didn't mar my appreciation of the story. Overall, the story is pretty good. I can envision a few more books in the series. I do have one bone to pick and that is the ending. I certainly wasn't expecting it to end that way and it totally didn't work for me. This was definitely the fly in the ointment! Given that, I will still recommend it as a good read. I suggest you read the first one though as it's an evolving series.
