Micky Gunn has come to Pine Forest to check out the inn she has inherited from her late uncle. Micky remembers the town, as being a refuge from the “shadow people” even though Pine Forest has the reputation as being the most haunted place. Micky is running from the past and from herself. It’s just to bad that the ancient one is back and looking for new blood and has targeted Micky.

Jared Thornton is a Denver policeman that has come to Pine Forest to solve his aunt’s murder. Jared’s aunt was one of the ancient one’s victims and even though Jared doesn’t understand what he is up against he is determined to solve his aunt's death.

When Micky and Jared keep running into each other in very extreme and dangerous situations they realize that there is more going on in this town than they thought. And both are hesitant to believe Erin, Lachlan and the others that it is a vampire doing the killings.

This is Ms. Agnew’s second book in Deep as the Night series and this one is a fantastic book. It helps to have read the first one as many of the characters from it are in this book, but isn’t totally necessary. It is so intense and suspenseful that it will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. The chemistry between Micky and Jared is fiery and the love scenes are so hot that you need a glass of ice water as you read. I do warn readers that there is some violence and even a mind rape scene in this book but it is very well written and is an essential part of the story. The heroine and the hero both handle the mind rape with extreme strength and lots of love and support from each other and their friends. The characters that Ms. Agnew has developed are so strong and vital that you love and care for each and every one and as to her villain he is so well done that he will have you shaking in your boots and sleeping with the light on. I love this series and can’t wait for the next installment.
