Lauren Fowler was a typical wallflower, never seen nor heard. The only thing she had that belonged to her was her job. Lauren loves the bookstore, but her co- workers were another matter entirely. Ines Monks, Beth Janacek and Karla Cooper didn’t want Lauren around and belittled her at every opportunity, making her life less enjoyable. The final straw came when Mrs. Louvenia Yelverton fired her over their lies. Lauren was heart broken. She went home, curled up and cried.

Syntian Cree is a creature of the night. This was what he was created for, to champion the good souls being abuse by others. Brought up out of the darkest pit below the Abyss, he is blood bound to a witch and lived only to serve her wishes. But he heard Lauren’s cry; it was weak at first, then it grew stronger. He had to go to her even if it meant punishment from the witch that owned him.

Syn Cree stood at Lauren’s bed and knew she was different from all the other women. She meant more than all of them, he wasn’t completely sure why, but he would find out. And he did. As time goes by Syn falls in love with Lauren and changes her life completely.

Through a series of misfortune and death, Lauren finds herself manger of the bookstore. Her life sure was taking some big changes very fast. Lauren knew Syn was the reason for it. Ever since he showed up things started changing. Lauren just couldn’t believe a man like Syn, who is beyond handsome, would want her.

Syn made Lauren’s world as close to perfect as he could. Only one thing could destroy their happiness and her name is Angeline Hellstrom. She owned the bookstore and most of all, she is the witch who owns Syn. He had to obey her every command.

Angeline Hellstrom was in lust with Syn. She wasn’t going to let anyone have him for long. Syn was her demon and only hers, but Angeline would give Syn some time with Lauren. After all she did like the girl. She would even allow them to get married then, when he wasn’t ready, she would strike.

And Angeline does strike. She captures Syn and locks him away in her own dungeon with a special cell created just for him. You see Syntian Cree is the creature known as the NightWind. Once, long ago, he had been a man. But cursed by a tribal Priestess, he was cast down in the pit of the Abyss. Only a blood bond could bring him out and even that had a price.

Cree knew he could never have his own life, but he thought he would willingly pay the price. Now he’s not so sure. Maybe there was a way he could beat Angeline and have a life with Lauren. What haunted him the most was Lauren. He wondered if she was all right? He gave her the child she wanted and he wished he knew how it was going. Was she worried over him? Had she give up on him? Was there any way in hell he could get back to her? Syn only knew one thing, his soul was tearing apart. The thought of never seeing Lauren again was pure torture. But his worse fear was what Angeline would do to Lauren? Would she go through with her threat to tell Lauren who and what he was?

This story took me totally by surprise. My feelings kept changing toward the hero as the story revealed its self. I really believe Syntian Cree is one of the most tortured creatures I’ve been introduced to in romance or horror tales. I feel that Syn had two sides to him. One side a demon and the other a lover. I will certainly get books 2, Demon Wind and 3, Bale Wind of this trilogy and see what is in store for Syntian and Lauren. Will Syn get a chance at happiness? What true facts about Lauren’s family come to light? Lauren receives help from the one person she never believed would help her. This book will most defiantly get your attention. Ms. Compo’s ability to write and spin tales just keeps getting better. I’ve taken a big bite out of this juicy story and can hardly wait for book 2. Enjoy!
