| Ever since she was a little girl spending vacations at her Grandmother's beach house, a handsome pirate had watched over Willie Evans, making her feel safe. Of course, no one else could see her pirate, but that was okay with Willie. Now grown, Willie has inherited the house and forgotten all about her pirate. When the town's new Dr. Jonathan Raven makes an offer on the house, Willie hears him out and quickly dismisses him -- especially when her pirate returns. Dr. Raven isn't really after the house, he's after his shade, Johnny, and also Willie's pirate.
I loved this book. The story was absolutely riveting and I couldn't put it down until I had read it cover to cover. The premise of the split vampire was brilliant and actually made a lot of sense. Raven, who was utterly amoral and clinging to a slim hope based solely on what he remembered about being human was the ultimate sympathetic hero. Johnny, the incorporeal shade of Raven, was everything good and sweet, but as a stand alone hero would not have made the grade. Combine the two and hello, you have got perfection. Willie grew up with Johnny, fantasized about him as a young girl, but was absolutely repulsed by Raven. This wound up being a problem. The story itself was much bigger than the page count and had it been fleshed out just a tad would have made this a five heart book. Lynne Michaels is an author I would definitely like to hear more from especially in this genre. This is an excellent quick, fun, and intense read that I highly recommend.
